Future Alumni Spotlight: Griffin Brewster ('20)

Before the world shifted, the Advancement Office had planned to share senior spotlights on some of the faces of the Class of 2020 and what Darlington means to them. These students represent everything Darlington’s faculty and staff work tirelessly for - our future alumni. 

There has never been a better time to feature our seniors - they deserve the spotlight as the spring they so looked forward to has shifted. This series will feature several Darlington seniors who will share their favorite things about Darlington and also how they are adjusting to this new world of distance learning.

Let’s get to know Griffin Brewster (’20), a day student from Rome, Georgia. 

How have you met the challenge of distance learning?

It has been challenging. It’s hard to not see your teachers face to face everyday and get the help you are used to getting, but the students and the teachers at Darlington have done a great job at figuring out ways to learn and teach in such a weird time.

What’s your favorite song?

I’m an old country music fan, so “The Breath You Take” by George Strait is one of my favorites.

What’s your favorite thing served in the dining hall?

I love wings, so whenever they served any kind of chicken legs or wings, I was all over it.

What house are you in?

I am in Neville. I have been a day leader and I loved every minute of it.

What are you involved in at Darlington (clubs, etc.)?

I am a part of the FCA Club.

If you are in sports who is your favorite coach and why?

I played football and Coach Atha has been like a second father to me. Ever since I was a little kid, he would let me come out and watch practices and the 7 on 7 events. He has been my coach since the 5th grade because he coached me in travel basketball and drove me around from practices to tournaments. Then when I got to high school, we already had that connection where he trusted me on the field to be able to lead guys and do the correct thing, and I learned all that from him. He’s been a role model to me of how to be a leader, a father, but more importantly a Christian man who puts all his faith in the Lord. Coach Atha is a huge reason I have had success on the field and in life, so he was my favorite coach/mentor of my life.

What is your favorite place on campus and why?

I love the lake. I love to fish and whenever I want to get away from everything I go down there and fish because it’s peaceful.

Who is your favorite teacher and why?

Mr Hudson because he is funny, I learn a lot and he always puts a smile on my face in class because he makes learning fun.

Where do you want to go to college and what do you want to do?

I am going to Kent State University in Ohio to play football and I am majoring in Sports Medicine.

If you could name the two new swans what would you name them?

Shake and Bake

The Darlington Fund raises $1 million every year. If you were given $10,000 what program would you want to give it to and why?

Football because every dollar put into that program was spent wisely and helped our team.

We have 1,500 donors who give to Darlington every year sure you have a great experience - in 10 words or less how would you thank them?

What is your favorite thing about Darlington and why is that important to you?

My favorite thing about Darlington is the people who are there everyday to help you whatever way possible and that’s important because it shows they care.
