Future Alumni Spotlight: Alana Dame ('20)

Before the world shifted, the Advancement Office had planned to share senior spotlights on some of the faces of the Class of 2020 and what Darlington means to them. These students represent everything Darlington’s faculty and staff work tirelessly for - our future alumni. 

There has never been a better time to feature our seniors - they deserve the spotlight as the spring they so looked forward to has shifted. This series will feature several Darlington seniors who will share their favorite things about Darlington and also how they are adjusting to this new world of distance learning.

Let’s get to know Alana Dame (’20), a boarding student from Spartanburg, South Carolina. 

How have you met the challenge of distance learning?

I have tried my best to stay on top of work.

What’s your favorite song?

“The Climb” - Miley Cyrus

What’s your favorite thing served in the dining hall?

Pasta

What house are you in?

I am a leader in Thornwood House and I'm a leader on the Yearbook staff.

What are you involved in at Darlington (clubs, etc.)?

I am part of the yearbook staff, Soccer Academy, and Wildlife Appreciation.

If you are in sports who is your favorite coach and why?

Coach Becks, she has inspired me so much in the past two years while being at Dar. She has a passion and love for coaching and it shows. She supports everyone 110%. She is tough on us because she knows at the end of the day it will pay off and winning is better than losing. She has truly made a big difference in my life for the better.

How have you been involved in fine arts?

I like being a part of the yearbook, it is like a tiny family.

What is your favorite place on campus and why?

I would have to say Thornwood is my favorite place. The memories and feelings I get when I go in there every time makes it a special place.

Who is your favorite teacher and why?

A teacher that I have had, it would be Mr. Cox he is very supportive and very understanding. He works with everyone and expects you to do your best and doesn't compare you to other students.

Where do you want to go to college and what do you want to do?

I'm attending The University of South Carolina Beaufort. I'm undecided as of now.

If you could name the two new swans what would you name them?

Darlene and Ophelia.

If you were given $10,000 to donate where would you donate to and why?

I'd give it to the Soccer Academy because they do a lot for their athletes and they need better indoor facilities to train. They bring in a lot of people each year and the program is getting bigger and bigger.

We have 1,500 donors who give to Darlington every year sure you have a great experience - in 10 words or less how would you thank them?

Thank you for making the best 2 years of my life happen.

What is your favorite thing about Darlington and why is that important to you?

Honestly the community is my favorite thing about Darlington. I have created bonds that I will have for life and I feel like Dar is one big family.
