From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 7

Sign-up sheets are now available for fall parent/teacher conferences. Please stop by your child’s classroom and sign up via the sheet posted on the classroom door.

Lola Schaefer, last year’s visiting author, will be on campus again next month to conduct a writing workshop with grades 1-4. She will also be our featured speaker and presenter at the school-wide assembly on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 2:15 p.m., so please mark your calendars. Parents are cordially invited to a coffee hosted by Lola on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 8 to 9 a.m. in Tiger Hall to talk with parents about children’s literature. We hope you can attend both of these events.

We have now completed our first fundraiser. I would like to thank our chairperson, Beth Cordell. Sally Foster gift wrap sales were a big success, thanks to the support of our families.

Interim reports will be sent home on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The progress key reflects the standards-based curriculum that is being used at the Lower School. The letter key reflects the level of mastery that the children have achieved. The interim report is broken down by subject areas and the teachers will write comments reflecting the student’s progress in each area. A detailed letter explaining our grading system will be attached to the interim report when it is sent home. Pre-K is the only grade that will not receive an interim report at this time.

After four weeks of school, the students have settled in nicely and we thank our parents for their support. We encourage all families to get involved in the various Tiger Pride activities and events that are offered, such as Late Start supervision, Helping Hands and the Fall Carnival.
