From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 5

By Steve Bartholomew - FF/S

The first Late Start Day came off “without a hitch.”  Thank you all for your cooperation. We appreciate our parent volunteers Sally Scarbrough, Jennifer Bagby, Kathleen Hughes, Scarlet Roberts, Rana Pyle, Wendy Shaw, Lauren Sklar, Allison Watters, Lauren Brewster, Amy Monroe, Marc Sklar and Susan Herring. Our parents do terrific work! Picture Day volunteers included Kathleen Hughes, Lauren Brewster, Rana Pyle, Wendy Shaw and Lauren Sklar. Thank you for making everything “picture perfect” for the children’s yearbook and class photos. The LifeTouch representative taking the photos commented on how polite the children are. This is her fourth year at the Lower School and her favorite school to photograph.

With 47 new students (40 families) at the Lower School, I would like to take this opportunity to ask our returning families to reach out to the new families and students in your child(ren)’s class. Please help our new family members feel comfortable here at the Lower School. Your assistance is most appreciated.

The Pigskin Picnic was well attended by Lower School families. It was good fun and food. Thank you for supporting our Tigers! The Sally Foster gift wrap fundraiser concludes on Friday, Sept. 10. Everything is done online. All orders will be mailed to your home except the cookie dough that will be delivered here in October by a refrigerated truck (parents who ordered this item will be notified). Parents can order online all year with Sally Foster and we will receive credit through the spring for all orders placed. Remember to use our school group account number 931094. Sally Foster will offer seasonal sales and holiday items on their website. We thank everyone for supporting this endeavor.

Congratulations to Alice Clements for her appointment to the Georgia State Professional Standards Commission. In addition, our librarian Ann Glass has added another title to her credentials. She will be Darlington’s official school archivist and will spend each Friday working in the Hanks Archives at the Upper School’s McCallie-Kennedy Library.

The rescheduled Tiger Pride meeting is Friday, Sept. 10, at 1:50 p.m. Please come out and support your parent association.
