I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Lower School families for helping make the 2010-11 school year a wonderful success. Your enthusiasm, support and partnership were greatly appreciated by our teachers and staff. We wish our fourth grade students all the best as they enter Middle School. The Class of 2019 is full of promise and has a bright future ahead.
Friday’s Field Day followed by our family cookout was a lot of fun for the children, thanks to Committee Chairperson Cammie Temple and her army of supporters. We want to especially thank all the room moms and dads, faculty and staff who helped make this day a huge success. Thanks also to emcee Theresa Dulaney and her assistants Ashley Henry and Ashley Evans, Eric Prince and Melody Thein from SAGE Dining Services, and Jim Daniels and Richard Hightower for their hard work.
Tiger Pride has already started planning for next year. Please stop by the foyer in Thornwood to sign up for the many committees offered. This is a great way to meet other parents and help the Lower School students and faculty throughout the school year. We welcome and encourage everyone’s participation. Sign-up sheets will be available throughout the summer and the first two weeks of the new school year.
Last week, a packet was sent home with the students that included registration and uniform information. Parents, please note that all of the required registration forms are due on or before July 11. Online registration begins on Monday, July 25. You will not be able to proceed with online registration until all forms have been turned in. Your prompt attention to this request is appreciated.
Also, the summer reading list and assignments were sent home for students entering grades 1-4. This information is also available on our website. Barnes & Noble in Rome will have the summer reading books available for purchase. Additionally, our librarian Ann Glass has organized an optional Summer Reading Club that will take place throughout the summer.
There is no need for any of our students to be bored this summer since a variety of camps are being offered through Darlington School’s Summer Programs. Please stop by the office to pick up a brochure or visit www.darlingtonschool.org/summer for information. New offerings include Lil’ Miss Manners Etiquette Camp, Tri Tiger Beginners Camp and Tri Tigers Advanced Overnight Camp.
Parents are cordially invited to attend the Awards Assembly for grades 1-4 on Thursday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the gym. Kindergarten students will receive their certificates and awards at 8:30 a.m. Thursday is the last day of school with dismissal at 11:45 a.m. Extended Day is available from 11:30 a.m. until 5:45 p.m.
Beginning Monday, June 6, summer office hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns. We wish all of our families a safe and restful summer vacation. School re-opens on August 15!
