Tiger Pride announces the new slate of officers for the 2011-12 school year:

You are cordially invited to attend the final Tiger Pride meeting for the school year on Friday, May 13, at 1:50 p.m. in Tiger Hall to cast your ballot for the slate of officers and learn about our exciting events for the new school year. I would also like to send a heartfelt thank you to our Tiger Pride Leadership Team for the past school year: Lauren Sklar, Kathleen Hughes, Scarlet Roberts, Susan Herring and Lauren Brewster. We appreciate their time and talent in supporting the Lower School. On behalf of our Tiger Pride parents, thank you again for a job well done.

Spirit Week is scheduled for the week of May 16-20. Our theme this year is “The Pirates are Coming!” Our annual Field Day and Cook Out will be held on Friday, May 20. There is no charge for the students who purchase lunch for the year or semester. Tickets are available in the school office for $4 for parents. Please make your purchase before Tuesday, May 17. 

During the last two weeks, the students may dress out of uniform. The only exception is Thursday, May 26, the last day of school and our annual Awards Assembly for grades K-4 at 10:30 a.m. Students should wear their purple knit shirts complemented by skirts, shorts or skorts. The fourth-grade students are asked to wear their “Sunday best.” This will be their last assembly at the Lower School and they will be honored with awards and recognition. Parents and family members are cordially invited to attend.

On Tuesday, May 17, the Battle of the Bands will highlight our Strings Program from all three divisions. The program will be held in our gym at 2 p.m. Parents, you do not want to miss this event that showcases a first class music program! Annie Camp and her support team will be here to dazzle you with an amazing performance.

Our summer reading list and assignments will be available on the website beginning Monday, May 16. Ready, Set, Summer! Workbooks, published by Time, will again be available for grades 1, 2 and 3 at a cost of $16.  These books may be purchased in the office on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage all families to engage their children over the summer in academic activities for at least an hour a day. This program helps prepare students for the next grade level. The publisher suggests that parents purchase the grade level that the child just completed. The purpose of the program is to have the children review and reinforce skills and concepts that they learned this year. The workbooks cover four academic areas – reading/ writing/vocabulary, math, social studies and science.

Another enrichment activity is available from Ann Glass and her team of teachers who will be offering a Book Club this summer. It is an optional summer reading program that will sponsor one book every week from June 7-August 2. The club will meet on Tuesdays in the Lower School Library from 4-5 p.m. We hope this program will motivate students to do more reading over the summer months.

All of the ERB testing is now completed. Reports have been sent to parents.
