From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 22
By Steve Bartholomew - FF/S
Congratulations to the 40 students who qualified to participate in our Grades 3-5 Spelling Bee on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 1:30 p.m. in the gym. Parents are cordially invited to attend. Three students from each grade will be able to compete in the Independent School Spelling Bee hosted by St. Mary’s School on March 3.
I invite all of you to attend our Family Night on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Huffman Center on the main campus. Noted author and world-class athlete Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind man in history to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, will give a dynamic presentation to Lower School students and their families. He is the author of the book Touch the Top of the World and co-author of The Adversity Advantage: Turning Everyday Struggles into Everyday Greatness. Parents are encouraged to visit his website at www.touchthetop.com . Erik’s presentation will be highly interactive and will include multimedia technology. You will not be disappointed in hearing from this unique and highly motivated individual!
Thank you to all of our families for their generous donations to Soles 4 Souls. You still have until Feb. 4 to contribute. The students are working on two Tiger Days for their participation and generosity.
Please note that winter break will start on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 11:45 a.m. and school will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Spring photos will be taken on Tuesday, Feb. 22, starting at 8:30 a.m. Students do not have to wear school uniforms, but it is not a jean or T-shirt day. Boys should wear collared shirts and girls should wear a nice outfit. Every student will have his or her photo taken, but purchasing any of the photos is optional.
Special thanks to our Tiger Pride moms who helped with the 100th Day of School celebration. The dining hall looked great and the classroom activities were a lot of fun for the students.
Enrollment contracts for the 2011-12 school year will be mailed in mid-February. We thank you for all of your referrals. We are having a busy admission season with many new families and students visiting and touring our school. If we can be of any assistance to you with re-enrollment, please do not hesitate to contact me or Lea Duncan.
