From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 20

Due to the winter weather and snow days, the National GeoBee has been rescheduled for this Friday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lower School Gym. We invite our parents and friends to witness this exciting competition. The winner from this competition will take a written test in order to qualify to represent the State of Georgia in the national competition held in May in Washington, D.C.

This month, our students are learning about civility as part of their Character Education program. Jill Pate has been introducing the word to our students through examples and real-world stories. This is very timely in light of the recent tragedy in Tucson, Ariz., and the remarks made by President Obama. It is interesting to watch the news from Tucson where the citizens have rallied behind what is good in our society. We will be recognizing students who demonstrate this quality in their daily behavior. We hope parents will reinforce this concept at home as well.

We look forward to everyone’s attendance to “Light up the Night” on Thursday evening, Jan. 20. There will be a table in the gym for parents to check-in and visit with the enrichment teachers starting at 6:15 p.m. Your child’s class will receive credit for your participation. Classes with 100% or near perfect participation will be rewarded. Also, representatives from Tiger Pride, the Teaching and Learning Center, the Admission Office, the Counseling department and other administrators representing all divisions will be on hand. The Lower School faculty in partnership with the Teaching and Learning Center and Admission Office is excited about this evening. We hope to see our families and future families at this event – thank you for your support.
