From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 2

By Steve Bartholomew - FF/S

Thank you for the great turnout for Darlington’s Opening Convocation, held Monday in the Huffman Center. What a great way to excite and motivate our students for the new school year! Many thanks to fourth-grade students Andy Brunt and Elliot Kinney, who participated in the ceremony and represented the Lower School.

Our theme this year is “If you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, you’re right.”

Please mark your calendar for the first home football game on Friday, Sept. 3. You are cordially invited to the annual Pigskin Picnic at 6 p.m. Reservations are being taken for this event, and money may be turned in to Suzanne in the front office. It is a fun evening for the entire family and a great way to show your Tiger Pride.

It is still not too late to volunteer for our many Tiger Pride committees. Sign-up sheets are in the foyer in the Thornwood Administration Building. This is a great way to meet other families and support the Lower School.

Please remember that until Nov. 1, the dress uniform includes a purple knit shirt with shorts or skorts.

There are two important photo sessions coming up. Yearbook photos will be taken Tuesday, Aug. 31, starting at 8:30 a.m. About two weeks after the photos are taken, packages will be sent home for ordering if you choose to do so. Then, on Thursday, Sept. 2, a school-wide panoramic photo will be taken in front of Thornwood. These photos will be pre-sold, so please watch for a flyer to be sent home in the purple folders. Photos from previous years are available in the school office.

Make your tax dollars work for Darlington students by participating in the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program. By redirecting your Georgia state tax dollars, you can make a difference in a child’s life. This program provides scholarship assistance to Georgia public school students entering grades PK to 12. This year, 18 Lower School students are recipients of Georgia GOAL Scholarship funds. For further information, please contact DeLean Brandon at dbrandon@darlingtonschool.org.
