We look forward to our annual National GeoBee competition that will be held this Friday, Jan. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the gym for grades 4-8. Students had to qualify to compete. We will have six students per grade for a total of 30 competitors. Our moderators for this competition will be David Powell, Melinda Holmes and Ann Glass. Parents and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Invitations were sent out on Friday for Light Up the Night, to be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, from 6:15 to 9 p.m. The Teaching and Learning Center, the Admission Office, and the Lower School faculty have put together a very informative program for our parents and guests. Teachers will be demonstrating their expertise and talking about their passion for teaching. Parents will also have the opportunity to visit with the teachers at the next grade level for their child. We encourage parents to bring a friend who is interested in Darlington School. Classes that have close to 100% participation will receive a Tiger Day and a night of no homework. Parents, please support the Lower School and your child’s classroom teacher by attending this event.
Jill Pate, director of personal counseling, has been speaking to the children about concept of civility. This is our character trait for the month of January. Students will be recognized for using good manners and showing civility towards each other by demonstrating a positive attitude, making good choices and practicing the Golden Rule. Sonny’s BBQ is partnering with our school to recognize students with character. The students will be recognized with a commendation and a coupon for a complimentary meal when accompanied by an adult.
Soles 4 Souls gets underway this week and will run through Jan. 28. Donations of shoes, boots, flip-flops, sneakers, etc. are appreciated. Please note that the shoes should be in good condition. Containers are located in front of Thornwood and in the Primary Circle. We are partnering with the Upper School servant leadership team and thank you for your support with this project.
