Christmas is the perfect time to thank all of our families for their generosity of time, commitment and support for Darlington School. We are so fortunate at the Lower School to have wonderful families who value excellence in education through the hard work of our faculty and staff.

We most appreciate our parents for helping us with the various projects and events held at the Lower School. This year, we added the weekly Late Start Wednesdays so teachers have an opportunity to meet and plan together and bridge the one school concept that we are achieving across grade levels. Our parents have stepped up to the plate to make this work for us and we thank you for your time.

Helping Hands has also been a wonderful support for the classroom teachers on a daily basis. Commitment for classroom projects and fund-raising endeavors has enabled our faculty to achieve goals that would otherwise not be possible. The work of Tiger Pride – on behalf of our students, faculty and families – continues to be a hallmark of volunteerism at the elementary level. We are grateful that our parents are willing to support all endeavors that enhance their children’s experience at the Lower School. On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you for the great work you are doing for us!

In January, the Teaching and Learning Center, the Admission Office, and our faculty and staff have partnered to offer a program for our families and friends called Light Up the Night. This is an evening that is dedicated to excellence in education and the work our teachers are doing at the Lower School. Our teachers will demonstrate best practices in education and share with you their passion for teaching and learning. In addition to meeting with the classroom teacher, our families will also visit the next grade for their children. This incredible evening will include the work of our wonderful enrichment teachers. Please mark your calendar now for Thursday, Jan. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. More information and a colorful brochure will be sent home early January. We encourage you to bring a friend or two to this event. Also in February, we will begin a series of seminars and educational workshops for parents. Please look for this information in January as well.

We wish all of our families a Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy 2011.
