From the Desk of the Lower School Director - 12

Special thanks to all of our families and friends who attended the Fall Festival on Saturday. It was a lot of fun and a wonderful opportunity for our families to get together. Many thanks also to our chairperson, Ily Good, and her committee for a great event!

This past weekend, Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) held its annual conference at Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Atlanta. Our own Janice Cox was a presenter. Her topic was “Creative Learning for Playtime and Snack.” During her creative and innovative presentation, Janice focused on ways to maximize student learning time during the school day. Of course, she featured the Chubby Cubby Restaurant and the Oval Rug Office. We are proud to have Janice on our staff.  She always goes the extra mile for students, parents and faculty.

On Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the kindergarten and pre-first students will present a play written by Janice Cox about a misplaced turkey. The morning performance is for our parents and area pre-school students and teachers. At 2 p.m., a repeat performance will be held for our students, parents and friends. 

This year, our annual fundraiser will be the Boosterthon Fun Run on Friday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. This will replace the magazine sale. Students will be receiving their pledge packets at the Kick-Off Assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 2:15 p.m. Parents are cordially invited to attend.

The Thanksgiving Feast is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 17. Parents who would like to eat with their children must purchase a ticket by Friday, Nov. 12. Please see Suzanne; tickets are $4 each. There will be no tickets sold after the 12th.

The Warm Clothing Drive is now underway. Drop-off is at both the Primary Circle and Thornwood. The last day to drop off clothing is Friday, Nov. 12. 

Parents, please note that starting on Nov. 3, students in pre-K and kindergarten should report to Mrs. Smith’s class; first-grade students should report to Mrs. Monk’s class; and second-, third- and fourth-grade students should report to Tiger Hall on Wednesday mornings. This reduces the number of parents needed. The teachers and staff are appreciative of this time to plan together. Darlington School has recently adopted the Atlas Curriculum Mapping software program which will enable us to communicate school wide about what is being taught at each grade level, in addition to communicating nationally and internationally. With the recent purchase of this program, the time on Wednesday morning is critical for the teachers to work on their curriculum mapping. Thank you to all of the parents who assist us with supervision.
