Friends establish scholarship, honor memory of Wittmeier and Riddle

The Mary Jo Wittmeier and Chip Riddle Scholarship has been established by a small group of friends of the Wittmeier and Riddle families. This scholarship was initiated for the 2002-03 academic year to honor the memory of the late Mary Jo Brice Wittmeier '75 and Bradford L. (Chip) Riddle Jr., devoted friends and parents of Darlington School.
The purpose of this award is to provide a full or near-full, need-based scholarship for a day student to start his or her Darlington experience at the Middle School. Darlington's scholarship selection committee will select the recipient. The award will be granted to a student who has been accepted to the School, and whose parents have completed a financial aid application. The scholarship will be for a day student or students, with preference given to those of Latino extraction. The recipient may be either a girl or a boy who has exhibited good character and citizenship, and is entering his or her first year at Darlington School. The committee will ideally renew the award if the recipient continues to qualify under the above conditions, and maintains satisfactory academic achievement and deportment.
Funding to fully endow the Wittmeier-Riddle Scholarship will be sought by a small group of the families' friends, led by Lenora Santoro. For the 2003-04 year, two recipients will receive the award.
