Four selected for High School Leadership Rome

Kendall Brooks, Laura Rhoades, Taylor Richardson and Landon Watters will represent Darlington School in High School Leadership Rome XIX, sponsored by the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce (GRCC).
“High School Leadership Rome is a Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce program that is modeled after the Chamber’s adult program,” said Al Hodge, CEO of GRCC. “Students are educated on all aspects of our community, increasing their awareness of opportunities as well as challenges we face in Rome and Floyd County. Student applications are sent to an outside selection committee. A diverse group of students from city, county and our private school systems are selected based on academics, leadership and community service. This year’s class will have an exciting learning experience as they travel throughout our community.”
Topics of interest will include law and government, healthcare, economic development and transportation, education, and industry/business and media.
Brooks said she is looking forward to meeting new people and having fun while learning. “I heard from a couple of my friends the things they had done in the High School Leadership Rome program and wanted to be a part of it,” she said. “It seemed like a great way to learn about our city. I hope to have a better understanding of the city of Rome and its businesses, and also learn how to become a better leader in the community.”
Richardson wanted to participate because of his father’s experience with the adult Leadership Rome program. “He has always talked about what a great program it is, and I wanted to be a part of it so that I could learn more about Rome and Floyd County and the issues we face here,” he said. “I hope that I will take away [from the program] many new friendships with students from throughout the area, a broader knowledge of … Rome and Floyd County, and leadership skills to help me throughout life.”
