Four named to All-Area Basketball Teams

Four members of the varsity basketball teams have been named to the Rome News-Tribune All-Area First Teams.

Lindsay Evans, a junior, was named Co-Player of the Year along with Model's Abby Monteith. She put up impressive numbesr all over the stat sheet this year, averaging 13.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.8 steals per game. A three-year starter, Evans has registered more than 1,000 points, 300 assists and 400 steals in her career. She is the daugher of Candi and Kevin Evans of Rome.

Maggie Beth Atha, a freshman, averaged 11.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game this season. She earned numerous honors, including being named to the 6-A All-Regtion team. She is the daughter of Cathe and Tommy Atha of Rome.

Terar Stewart, a sophomore, recorded 14 double-doubles and averaged 14.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, despite routinely being double-teamed in the post. She shot 59 percent from the floor and was named to the Rome News-Tribune's All-Festival team and the 6-A All-Region team. She is the daughter of Nikki Watkins and Andre Stewart of Summerville, Ga.

Cam Collins, a junior, was the Tigers' best scorer this season, consistently knocking down shots from outside as well as getting offensive put-backs. He averaged 18.4 points and five rebounds per game. He is the son of Rozanne and Forrest Collins of Calhoun, Ga.

The Lady Tigers' coach, Josh Hembree, was named Coach of the Year after overseeing a team that featured just one senior and one junior. Hembree guided the Lady Tigers to the 6-A region tournament titel and second straight berth in Sweet 16. His team won 15 consecutive games in one stretch, earning them the title of Rome News-Tribune Team of the Year.

Honorable Mentions went to Rachael Turrentine, Sydney Stout, Cedric Spivey and Chad Collins.
