Four named to All-Area Baseball Team

Four members of Darlington's varsity baseball team, who made it to Round 3 of the Class A state playoffs, have received All-Area honors from the Rome News-Tribune.
Chase Butler, a rising senior, was named Co-Player of the Year along with Calhoun's Mott Hyde. He went 6-0 on the mound with four saves and a .38 ERA, while striking out 53 batters in 37 innings. Batting third for the Tigers, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Butler spends time at shortstop most days and had a .486 average with a .633 on-base percentage. He had 35 hits this season, including eight doubles, a pair of triples and eight home runs, to go along with 36 RBIs. Butler helped lead Darlington to their Region 6-A victory this year, and has verbally committed to play for Georgia Tech after he graduates in 2010. He is the son of Lisa and Rhett Butler of Rome.
Brice Baker, a recent graduate, was dominant on the mound with a 9-1 record and 1.62 ERA. He struck out 62 batters in 73 innings, and also recorded two saves for the Tigers. When he wasn't pitching, Baker manned centerfield and hit .305 with a homer, five doubles and 22 RBIs. He is the son of Lori and Norris Baker of Rome.
Lee Couch, a rising junior, played both positions on the left side of the infield, and was the lead-off batter for Darlington. He batted .462 with 43 hits, including two homers, nine doubles and two triples. Couch had a .519 on-base percentage. He is the son of Christy Couch of Cedartown, Ga.
Cole Miller, a rising sophomore, hit the cleanup spot for most of the season while playing first base primarily. He had seven home runs and nine doubles, while batting .386 and leading the team in RBIs with 39. Miller also played some in the outfield and had a .475 on-base percentage. He is the son of Lynda and Doug Miller of Cave Spring, Ga.
Honorable Mentions went to rising senior Evan Brooks of Aragon, Ga., and rising junior Jack Stevens of Kingston, Ga.
