Senior Sennay Tewolde auditioned and was selected to perform with the 7th District Georgia Music Educator’s Association Symphonic Honor Band. The selective band rehearsed Jan. 6-7 and culminated the event with a concert Jan. 8 at Cartersville High School.
Sophomores Andrew Babcock and Phillip Floyd passed the 2000 Georgia Music Educator’s Association All-State Band district-level audition, at Cartersville High School, Thursday, Jan. 6. Babcock and Floyd were recommended for the state final auditions to be held at Mercer University in Macon on Saturday, Feb. 12. If they pass this audition they will go on to Savannah May 4 - 6 to perform with the Georgia All-State Band.
The Upper School Wind Ensemble will depart for Washington, D.C., their 1999-2000 concert trip, Thursday, Feb. 17. While in the nation’s capital, these students will tour the United States Capitol Building, the Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam and Korean War memorials, the Washington Monument, the National Archives, and the Smithsonian Institute Museums. Tours of the White House and/or the FBI building are also possibilities. During their tour of Arlington National Cemetery four of the band members will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The band’s concerts include performances for the general public and a Darlington alumni gathering.
The Upper School band will participate in the 7th District Georgia Music Educator’s Association Concert Band Festival at Woodland High School (outside Cartersville), Thursday, Feb. 24.
The Chorale and Concert Choir will present Heart Songs, a concert that focuses on different aspects of love, Sunday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m., at the chapel. The group will address unspoken, true, and scorned love, while performing folk, pop, art, and standard choral selections.
