Fall season wraps up with successes

Last weekend was a busy one for Darlington athletics.
Though the football team had already secured the region title, the boys played their last region game against Trion High School on Friday. Unfortunately, Trion won the game 21-14, but the Tigers finished the regular season 4-1. Darlington will host the first round of state playoffs this Friday.
After sweeping both region titles, the boys' and girls' cross country teams competed at state Saturday in Carrollton. Both teams placed seventh out of 32 qualifying teams. Sophomore Ansley McDurmon was Darlington's top girl, finishing at No. 8, and sophomore Jesse Baker was top boy, placing at No. 12.
Darlington's competition cheerleading squad finished third in the region event held Saturday at Cartersville High School.
Also on Saturday, the crew team competed in its last regatta of the season. With more than 8,000 rowers and 1,800 boats, the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga is the second largest event of its kind in the country and the largest in the Southeast. All of Darlington's boats improved their times significantly throughout the season.
