Fall Events are Plentiful at Lower School
By Steve Bartholomew - FF/S
Today is the first day of fall with a beautiful weekend ahead. Within the next two weeks, I am looking forward to a series of meetings to hear from our families about what is working well and what can be improved. These meetings are called “What’s on Your Mind – How Can We Help?” The schedule below is designed to get as many parents involved as possible. There will be two meeting times available for each grade. Parents need attend only one of the sessions. I look forward to everyone’s participation.

Tiger PRIDE has planned a turn-in day for the “Run with PRIDE” event on Thursday, Sept. 29. A friendly competition has been organized to spark some interest in turning in your forms. The class with the highest turn-in rate will receive a donut and milk treat on Sept. 30 during recess. I encourage all of our families to support Tiger PRIDE’s Fun Run and fundraiser.
Becky Bates is spearheading the Box Tops collection this year. The first turn-in date is Oct. 14 and the second is Feb. 13. Children can turn in Box Tops to the classroom teacher. The winning grade(s) will receive a Tiger Day and an extra P.E. class. Sally Scarbrough is organizing “Bargain Days” (a.k.a. gently used uniform sale) on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 1-3 p.m. The sale will be held in the conference room and Primary Circle teacher lounge (next to Mrs. Monk’s room). Checks and cash only.
Mandatory parent conferences are scheduled for October. There will be no school on Oct. 12 because of these conferences, but Extended Day will be available from 8 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. Please reserve your child’s Extended Day, if needed, with either Alice Johnson or Jackie Kearton. This year, the fourth-grade teachers will meet together with their parents. Some conferences will be schedule ahead of the Oct. 12 date so that sufficient time is available to meet with everyone.
Fall for the Arts on Friday, Oct. 7, is an Early Release Day (12:30 p.m. dismissal). All of the students will have lunch before they depart for the event on the main campus. Parents are to pick up at 12:30 p.m. and head over to the festival. Grades 3 and 4 will ride school buses over since they are performing at 1 p.m. Parents are expected to pick up their children in grades 3 and 4 after their performance. All children who attend this event will need to be checked out with the classroom teacher when they leave that day. Extended Day is available from 12:30 until 5:45 p.m. for families who have conflicts and cannot attend. Please let the classroom teacher know well in advance if your child is going to Extended Day on Oct. 7.
