Fall Deadlines and Reminders

State Applications Due Sept. 23
Applications for state universities in the South are due to the college guidance office by Sept. 23. These applications, which require no recommendations, include Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, and others. Applications for the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, both of which require essays, are also due at this time.
Meeting this deadline will help ensure a smoother flow of paperwork from the college guidance office to the colleges, help seniors spread out their application paperwork, and gain for many seniors acceptances earlier in the year.
“If your grades and scores through your junior year will qualify you for admission, why would you not want to find out that good news as soon as possible?” Sam Moss said. “If your numbers are not high enough, these colleges will re-evaluate your application when they receive your fall SATs and your first trimester grades. It’s a no-lose situation.”
Early Decision Applications Due Oct. 8
All Early Decision and Part I applications for colleges with a two-part system (Washington & Lee, University of Virginia, Duke, Ivy League schools, Vanderbilt, and others.) are due to the college guidance office by Friday, Oct. 8.
Call for Applications and Appointments
Seniors have many September tasks as they begin the college application process. According to Sam Moss, if they have not already done so, seniors need to call or write colleges for information and applications as well as to schedule appointments and plan visits. They should also set up appointments with their college advisers to discuss colleges and narrow down choices. In addition, they must register for the October and November SATs, which all seniors are required to take.
College Admission Guidebook an Important Resource
Darlington’s College Admission Guidebook has recently been mailed to parents of all seniors.
“It is extremely important for seniors and their parents to read this information,” said Sam Moss.
“It will provide them not only with general information about college admission and the application process, but also with specific information about Darlington’s requirements for completing and turning in applications, taking college leaves, and deadlines and due dates. It should be very helpful to both seniors and their parents,” Moss said.
