Fall arts celebration returns to Darlington this Friday

Darlington School’s Fall for the Arts Festival returns for its sixth year on Friday, Oct. 10, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Morris Chapel Lawn.
The festival is free to attend and open to the public.
“The purpose of Fall for the Arts is to celebrate what our students do each and every day in the classroom, on the stage or wherever they are,” said Kim Tunnell, Darlington’s director of fine arts.
Artwork from students at the Early Learning Academy (ELA) through 12th grade will be on display at the school’s annual celebration of fine arts. Hands-on craft stations will be set up on-site for attendees to create while also contributing to a paper quilt, a large-scale painting, posters, paper flowers and more. Participation in all art-based activities is free.
Fall food offerings available for purchase include caramel apples, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones from KaleidoSno, whoopie pies, and a variety of other snacks.
Guests are invited to actively make, but to also sit back on the lawn and enjoy live music and the fall weather.
Attendees will also see the work of Darlington students present with the publicity and promotion of the event, as well as in the graphic design and art for posters and programs, highlighting other forms of the arts along a wider spectrum.
“It’s a gift for the school to recognize that the fine arts are an important part of our curriculum,” said Tunnell. “The creative process is something that is greatly valued here.”
Darlington students and their families are invited to have lunch beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be grilled on-site, and chips, cookies and water will also be available. Family members are asked to register for lunch by Wednesday, Oct. 8. Lunch will be provided for free to students, and is available to guests for $6 per person.
Students also have the option to purchase prepaid armbands for $5 and $10 to use to purchase snacks and any other food station item. Armbands must be purchased online by Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Friday is also a Tiger Day, and students are invited to wear Darlington apparel, especially clothing that relates to the Fine Arts program.
“Everybody creates on their own terms, and that’s our inspiration with this event,” added Tunnell.
Parking for guests will be available at the baseball field or at the Huffman Athletic Center. Tiger Way will be closed for traffic at 10:30 a.m.
