Faculty meets the 100 percent challenge!

Every member of the Lower, Middle, and Upper School faculty has contributed to this year’s Annual Fund, a first in Darlington’s history. Lower School faculty members, led by Annual Fund faculty volunteer Lucy Babcock, were the first to reach 100 percent participation, leading the way for the others. Middle School faculty, led by faculty volunteer Sally Muschamp, quickly followed suit. The Upper School, with the largest number of faculty members, reached 100 percent participation on Oct. 18 and "Striped the Tiger," an inspirational graphic designed by faculty volunteer Dan Bishop. As a result, a challenge match put in place by the six Houses has also been met, resulting in an additional $6,000 to the Annual Fund.
Each year, the Annual Fund makes up the 10 percent gap between what the School can reasonably charge for tuition and receives from fees and endowment income and what the School needs to provide the excellent education for which it is known. This year, Darlington needs $1,350,000 to bridge the gap between tuition, fees, and endowment income and the budget. In addition to the financial benefits the School receives from each gift, participation, at any level, is the single strongest indicator to private and corporate foundations in their decision to lend their support to the School.
“One hundred percent participation by the School’s faculty is a powerful validation of the School’s value to students and their parents, as well as to our alumni,” Mollie Avery, vice president for development, said. “It speaks volumes to others who are considering whether their gift to the School is money well spent.”
