ELA-2 Students to "Read Across America" with Surishtha Sehgal

On Monday, March 2, Darlington's ELA - 2nd grade students will celebrate "Read Across America" with a very special guest: New York Times bestselling author Surishtha Sehgal! 

Ms. Sehgal is the founder of Mentor Walk, a nonprofit initiative that helps inspire children to stay in school. She was a university professor of psychology for more than twenty years and serves on the advisory boards of two universities. 

Ms. Sehgal will read to the ELA - 2nd grade students from "A Bucket of Blessings," a picture book that she cowrote with her son, Kabir Sehgal. "A Bucket of Blessings" offers an enchanting telling of an old Indian myth, told in a way that is approachable to young children:  

Near a majestic mountain in a vast jungle with many mango trees, it has not rained for weeks and weeks. The village well and pond are dry. Monkey and his friends look everywhere for water, but they have no luck. And then Monkey remembers a story his mama used to tell him, a story about how peacocks can make it rain by dancing. So he sets out to see if the story is true…

If any ELA - 2nd grade students would like to have Ms. Sehgal sign a copy of "A Bucket of Blessings," she will be autographing books on the day of her visit.

A percentage of proceeds from the book will go to Charity: Water, a New York-based nonprofit that brings clean water to people in need in countries where access is limited.
