Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

It is difficult to check books out to the students when the book covers have illustrations that are hopelessly out of date.  For so many of us, an outdated cover is synonymous with an outdated story.  Even if the analogy isn’t true, an outdated cover doesn’t do anything to make a story seem appealing. 

Publishers know this and will reprint old books with updated covers.
"The Cam Jansen" series, "The Boxcar Children" series, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," etc., have all received new covers over the years.  Lots of younger students get confused and don’t understand that the words inside the book are the same, regardless of the cover illustration.  I can hardly blame them. One book looks appealing and the other, older book doesn't.  That is when it is nice to have a friend say, "It doesn't look like much, but this is a great read!"
