District notes musical excellence

Darlington students are hitting all the right notes, and receiving recognition for doing so. Freshmen Dennis Kim and Beau Griffith were selected for the 2002 Seventh District Concert Honor Band. Also, Clark-Coleman McGehee, eighth grade, was selected to the Seventh District Middle School Honor Band. “Selection into these bands was based on a very competitive audition process that took place Dec. 1 in Trion,” said Bill King, instrumental music director. The District Honor Band will meet in Cartersville Jan. 10 – 12 and will perform on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Cartersville High School.
Sixth-grader Turner Edwards passed the first level auditions for All State Middle School Band on Tenor Saxophone. Turner is the only sixth grader in the Seventh District to have achieved this honor. He will do his final audition in February and, if he passes, will be in the 2002 Georgia All State Middle School Band.
District level auditions for High School All State Band will be held in January at Cartersville High School and a number of our High School Band members will be auditioning at that time.
