Design Student Spotlight: Mily James ('25)

Mily James ('25) is a talented artist who is responsible for the poster design of the fall play, "12 Angry Jurors." Hear more from Mily in her interview below.

What do you like the most about the design process?

I really liked the planning. I definitely enjoyed the doing, but I feel like getting into the subject of what exactly I wanted to present in this poster was my favorite part, especially seeing the symbolism I could include and where I put things in the spacing. 

What do you look to for inspiration?

I got a lot of inspiration from looking at poster designs online. I had a couple of ideas some people suggested to me, but for the most part I was able to find inspiration from past designs and create my own original work. 

What is the most challenging part of designing in your world?

The trial and error. Getting all of the tiny nitpicky details, all of the shooting, all the colors, all the mood lighting, and the text and names right was a hundred percent the most difficult part. 

What experiences have you had as a result of working through this design process with projects at Darlington or how has it benefited you?

I’ve really enjoyed seeing our posters all over the school. Although it was scary at first, because it was my work all over the walls, it felt really rewarding.
