Dempsey wins district 4-H competition

Seventh-grader Callie Dempsey recently won first place in the Northwest District Project Achievement (DPA) 4-H competition for her presentation on reptiles as companion animals, specifically their benefits as emotional support animals. In addition to her presentation, Dempsey shared a portfolio showcasing her activities over the past year. Dempsey was one of nine Floyd County 4-H members to attend the competition.
Participants chose from a variety of project topics and, after extensive research and preparation, presented it to a panel of judges and experts in the field at the district competition. They gain public speaking, leadership and research skills through their projects.
Dempsey, a first-year seventh-grader from Rome, is involved in cross country, track and soccer. She is the daughter of Amy (Holmes) and Gaines Dempsey, both 1994 graduates of Darlington.
Georgia 4-H empowers youth to become true leaders by developing necessary life skills, positive relationships and community awareness. As the largest youth leadership organization in the state, 4-H reaches more than 242,000 people annually through the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension offices and 4-H facilities.
