In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Grayson Davis, a five-year day student from Cedartown, Ga., who has taken the stage in numerous theater productions at Darlington, including last month's production of "My Fair Lady."
When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Theater, community, friendship
When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“Pictures of Mountains” by Cody Fry
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Lucifer”
What house are you a member of?
Summerbell House
What are you involved in at Darlington?
Member of the Student Fine Arts Council, 6-Star Honor Thespian, member of the Concert Choir, vice president of The Random Notes a cappella choir
If you are involved in the arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
Acting in the productions we put on each year. It's such a surreal feeling to work for months on something so powerful and then put it on in front of a crowd. Nothing compares to it.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Black Box Theatre because that's where I can go to clear my head, reminisce over the last few years, and hang out with friends.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teachers are Mr. McDurmon and Mrs. Daniel. Mr. McDurmon is an outstanding teacher who was able to make classes both incredibly informative and fun to be in because of his sarcastic sense of humor. I also never felt as if I could walk into class unprepared, I had to ensure that I knew what I was doing or I would fall behind very fast. Mrs. Daniel has been my theater director for four years and I have made endless memories with her and the theater program. She is a great person, someone who really wants to see her students succeed, and works hard to make sure that happens.
What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the community aspect.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The outstanding theater program is something that I don't think I could have found anywhere else. There are very few high school theaters in the world that are as professional as ours and none would have inspired me to love theater like I have.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've grown more confident, more willing to go out and talk to people, more motivated in nearly all aspects of life. Most importantly, I’ve grown more passionate about things I already loved and found new passions that I wouldn't have found anywhere else.
Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I'm going to be attending Sewanee: University of the South and my dream job is a lawyer or economist.
