In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Eli Mayes, a 10-year day student from Rome who plays the violin, runs track, and loves math and science.
When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Honor, integrity, diversity
When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
Theme song from “Pirates of the Caribbean” as performed by the Darlington Orchestra
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Big Bang Theory”
What house are you a member of?
Neville House
What are you involved in at Darlington?
Discipline Committee, Orchestra, track middle school and high school, MTG iPeriod sponsor, D&D iPeriod sponsor
If you are involved in the arts, what’s your favorite activity and why?
I have played the violin since third grade with Mrs. Camp. Music has always been a stress release for me, and I have enjoyed progressing as a musician with Mrs. Camp and the orchestra over the past 10 years.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is the science building because it is quiet and the teachers there are very nice.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Kuckhoff. I appreciate her love of science and willingness to make time for students.
What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite things about Darlington are the students and the teachers.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know a diverse group of students from all over the world and to learn about their culture.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
During my time as a student at Darlington, I have developed a love of learning that will remain with me throughout my academic career and thereafter. I feel that learning is much more than preparing for science tests and quizzes, but rather delving into the deep recesses of understanding the manner in which the physical world works.
Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I want to go to college somewhere with tremendous science and math departments and lots of research opportunities. I hope to have a career in the scientific or medical fields.
