Day #SeniorSpotlight: Alexa Segura
By Maddie Chastain - Faculty
A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.
Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.
Let’s get to know Alexa Segura, a six-year day student from Cave Spring, Ga., who is a talented artist and a member of all three varsity cheerleading squads.
When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, Honor, Friendship
What song reminds you of high school?
"Good Old Days” (feat. Kesha) - by Macklemore
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Jane the Virgin”
What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Chili’s
What house are you a member of?
Thornwood! (the best house)
What are you involved in?
I was a member of the football cheerleading team and captain for both basketball and competitive cheerleading. I am also secretary of HOSA, day leader in the dorms, and social media chair of the Student Arts Council.
If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach was Mr. Pitts because he always encouraged our team to be our best and made us feel safe in different situations like trying new stunts.
If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
I have been in an art class ever since I moved to Darlington and so now I am an AP Art student and I am also a part of the Arts Council. I love getting to go to Art class and having a brain break during my day. I find painting and drawing really relaxing so it is nice to have those classes.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is Thornwood House because I have so many fun memories there and love getting to see all the girls that I probably wouldn't be able to see throughout the day. I love going to my duty nights and spending time with what feels like my second family.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Baldwin because she always pushed me to work hard and was there for me when times were rough. She was the first teacher I met when I came to Darlington and my advisor; she was the best mentor and gave the best advice.
What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the independence that we are given. It feels good to know that we have a school that can trust us to leave and go get food during the day, have free periods, and let us manage our time on our own.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS is the best part of the year for sure. To have a tradition that is special to Darlington and is the best weekend of the year is something that I couldn't have had anywhere else.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have learned to manage my time better and developed so many friendships that will hopefully continue through the rest of my life.
What is your dream job?
I hope to be a certified anesthesia assistant at the children’s hospital in Atlanta!
