Darlington's 21st Century Skills

As we continue to move forward with our technology integration program at Darlington, it is important that we not only focus on devices but also the skills being taught.  We have designed a road map called Darlington’s 21st Century Skill Set, outlining the skills that will be taught to students from pre-K to 12th grade.

Darlington’s 21st Century skill set will provide teachers and students with a focus on what skills are to be introduced, reinforced, mastered and expected for each grade level.  Teachers will be able to look at the grade level they are teaching and anticipate the skills they will need to teach their students and integrate them into their classroom curriculum.  Parents will also be able to see the big picture of what their students will learn over the course of their educational path at Darlington.

Teachers will be taking part in many professional development opportunities over the summer to learn how to best incorporate these new skills into their teaching.  Teachers will be attending conferences and workshop on topics like mobile technology, project-based learning, flipped classrooms, and subject-specific technology integration.  Teams of teachers will be learning teaching and learning strategies with technology together during a summer-long online program and two-day workshop in Atlanta.  The Darlington I.T. department will also be offering a summer workshop series for teachers as well.  In addition, we have just made available Atomic Learning to teachers, a comprehensive collection of online training for specific technologies.

We are very excited at Darlington to provide teachers and students state of the art advanced technology to integrate technology into the classroom.  With this new technology and a curriculum that teaches relevant skills in a prescribed way, we will prepare students not only for college but with real-world skills they will need for life.
