Darlington Welcomes New Faculty to Campus

Darlington is welcoming some new and other familiar faces to the campus this fall: Bob McGraw Ph.D. will teach Calculus and Geometry and direct the Upper School community service program. McGraw’s experience includes teaching at Armuchee Middle School, college-level instruction, and work as a mechanical engineer.
Joseph Pieroni has been hired to teach Upper School Pre-calculus and Algebra I and coach Middle School basketball. He earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio in secondary education and math and computer science.
Laura Murray, Upper School English instructor and Raymond Murray’s wife, will teach Biology at the Upper School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Miami University, Miami, Ohio. Murray has taught at the Outdoor Education Center, in the Houston school district, and at Faquier High School, Warrenton, Va.
David Shepard will teach Government and Economics and Ancient World History at the Upper School. Shepard earned a bachelor’s degree in American history from Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va. His work history includes experience as a camp counselor and as an information office intern in the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia.
Jim Linos will teach Upper School Spanish and coach volleyball. Linos taught Spanish and social studies and coached girls’ varsity volleyball and softball at Beloit Catholic School, Beloit, Wis. and coached boys’ basketball and softball at Northwestern Military and Naval Academy, Lake Geneva, Wis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in modern languages and literature from Beloit College, Beloit, Wis.
Randy Smith will teach Middle School science and coach Middle School football and wrestling. Smith comes from Winthrop Academy, Rome, where he was president and CEO of three childcare centers. He has taught middle and upper school science and coached varsity wrestling, football, and golf. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in middle grade math and science from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga., and a master’s of education degree and an Ed.S. at Georgia State University, Atlanta.
Marit Mniszewski is an Upper School English department intern. She will teach English classes and serve as an assistant cross country coach. Mniszewski earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in sociology from Berry College, Rome.
John Payne will teach Upper School English and coach boys’ lacrosse. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English and writing from Loyola College, Baltimore City, Md. Recently, he served as a local development officer in the England Lacrosse Association.
Christopher Bettera will teach French at the Upper School. He comes to Darlington from Mt. St. John’s School for Boys, Deep River, Conn., where he worked as a child care counselor. Bettera earned a bachelor’s degree in French and psychology at St. Lawrence University, Canton, N. Y. Also, he studied at Faculte des Lettres in Mont Saint Aignon, France.
