Darlington to host Soccer Showcase & Combine

Darlington School, in partnership with Arsenal Rome Soccer Club, is bringing The Sport Source 15th Annual Soccer Showcase & Combine to Rome Dec. 16 through 18.
This event is open to boys and girls Under-16 to Under-19 clubs, state and regional teams, as well as Olympic Development Program teams from across the United States, selected based on standing within their region, age and division.
“This is a way for players from across the nation to gather and develop their soccer skills, while participating in seminars, games, lectures and scouting activities with coaches from several schools in the Southeast,” said Chad Liddle, Darlington School Soccer Academy director. “Our goal is for all the players involved with this event to have maximum exposure to the college coaches.”
Capping at 72 teams, approximately 1,000 players are expected to participate. Nearly 100 coaches will attend this year’s event, representing schools such as South Carolina, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Berry and Shorter, as well as NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA, and NJCAA.
Over the three-day showcase, each team will play in three 80-minute exhibition games, allowing all players to perform without the pressure of winning a tournament.
“The Player Combine is a way that those participating in the showcase can be seen individually. It gives players whose team might not have been accepted into the showcase an opportunity to display their talents,” said Liddle. “Velocity Sports will be on hand to schedule athletic evaluations with interested participants.”
College Planning Workshops will be held in conjunction with the showcase to help players and parents develop a personal action plan for selecting the college or university that best fits the student’s academic and athletic needs. Additionally, a College “All-Sports” Seminar will be hosted by Charlie Kadupski, author of “The Sport Source,” Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Darlington School’s Huffman Center. This session is open to the public (all athletes who may or may not be playing in the combine) at a cost of $25 per student. During the weekend, there will also be a recruiting lecture and a question and answer session with leading college coaches.
Registration for the entire Showcase & Combine is $75 per person, which includes three exhibition games, a one-hour training session with leading college coaches, three college planning sessions, a strength and conditioning evaluation by Velocity Sports Performance, and a Showcase & Combine T-shirt. Games will be played at the YMCA’s Grizzard Park and Darlington’s soccer and lacrosse fields, and are open to the public.
