Novice and seasoned triathletes of all ages will return to Darlington School on Sunday, Oct. 2 to raise money for The Open Door Home and compete in the 4th Annual RACE Rome Sprint Triathlon and Inaugural Youth Triathlon presented by RACE Rome and Rome Orthopaedic Center.

“RACE Rome is thrilled to be partnering with Darlington on another event,” said Sarah Husser of RACE Rome. “The campus's landscape and amenities make it the perfect location for both adult and youth triathlons, and the picturesque setting assists in attracting racers from across the Southeast. RACE Rome greatly appreciates Darlington's continued support and commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyle choices for individuals of all ages.”

The day will kick-off at 9:30 a.m. with the youth race. Ages 7 to 9 will complete a 50-yard lake swim, 2.4-mile bike on Cave Spring Road and half-mile run. Ages 10 to 14 will swim 100 yards, bike 4.8 miles and run 1 mile. The course is closed to traffic and lifeguards will be in the water overseeing the swim. Registration is $30 for USAT members, $35 for non-members. All racers will receive a medal and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category.

The sprint race will follow at 1:30 p.m. and feature a 500-yard out-and-back lake swim, 14.5-mile scenic bike ride and 3.1-mile run through Darlington’s campus. Don’t want to race alone? Relay teams are welcome and encouraged. Registration is $65 for individuals and $85 for relay teams until Sept. 12, after which fees increase by $10.

Both races are USAT sanctioned. Participants must register in advance as there will be no race day registration. For more information and to register, visit www.imathlete.com or call 706-296-7103.
