Darlington to host Many Voices concert Sunday

As part of the Rome community’s One Book, Many Voices reading initiative, Darlington will host the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation’s Many Voices concert on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m. in the Huffman Athletic Center.

The concert will feature the talents of the Mountain Top Experience Djeme Drummers, Darlington's Middle School Chorus, the Drew Charter Dance Team, the Berry Chamber Singers, the Christ Temple Praise Dancers, Kingdom Culture Ministries and the Just As I Am Choir. Each group will perform two numbers.

"I look forward to this event each time as it is a great opportunity for Darlington to host the community in a celebration of the joy and excitement that music brings to each of us," said Kim Tunnell, Darlington's director of fine arts. "Everyone brings something different to the event through their performance and we all leave the experience with a better appreciation for life and each other, and especially our differences. I invite everyone to join us for this great celebration."

Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will benefit children and families of South Rome.

Modeled after similar initiatives throughout the nation, One Book, Many Voices is designed to encourage reading, spark discussion and bring the community together through the reading of one great book. This year's book is Kristin Kimball's "The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food, and Love.”

Participating organizations and sponsors include 100 Black Men of Rome, Barnes & Noble, Berry College, Chieftains Museum, Darlington School, Floyd County Schools, Georgia Highlands College, Georgia Power, the Greater Rome Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, Rome-Floyd Communities in Schools, Rome-Floyd County Library, and the Rome-News Tribune.
