Darlington to 'Fall for the Arts' on Oct. 11

Darlington’s annual fine arts celebration will kick off with the Fall for the Arts Festival on Friday, Oct. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Morris Chapel Lawn and in The Cove at the Upper School. The public is welcome and admission is free.
“On Friday afternoon, the Upper School campus will be bursting with excitement thanks to the wide array of activities, galleries and performances for all ages,” said Kim Tunnell, fine arts director. “Artwork will be on display and live performances will showcase our students at their best. This festival is an opportunity for every student at Darlington to participate in the viewing, creating and performing of art. With food, entertainment and lots to do and see, it is a great way to enjoy a fall afternoon and experience the fine arts at Darlington.”
Entertainment will include performances by the 4th and 5th Grade Chorus, the Middle School Chorus, the Middle School Jazz Band and Orchestra, the Middle School Musical Theater and Drama classes, the Ladies’ and Men’s Chorales, the Concert Choir, the Random Notes and Darlingtones, and the Stadium Band. Students from the Upper School Drama class will also perform.
Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun activities for children of all ages – including face painting, individual and group painting projects, tie dying (bring your own shirt or socks), silkscreen printing and tissue paper flowers.
Refreshments will be available for purchase.
“The Bake Sale will include traditional baked goods as well as popcorn, water and soft drinks,” Tunnell said. "We also will have the Kona Snow Cone Truck on site. Proceeds from refreshment sales will go toward the cost of the event, which is sponsored by the Fine Arts Booster Club."
Fall for the Arts T-shirts will be on sale Oct. 3 and 4. Featuring artwork created by Chandler Johnson (’14), T-shirts are $8 for short-sleeved and $10 for long-sleeved.
