For the second consecutive year, Darlington School is proud to serve as the practice location for both teams competing in the NAIA Football National Championship, which will take place Dec. 19 at Rome’s Barron Stadium. This year’s title game, which begins at noon, will feature The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) vs. Lindenwood University (Mo.)

“Coming off the heels of our own football team’s state semifinal appearance, there is excitement is in the air for the National Championship game,” said Bob Stinchcomb, Darlington’s athletic director. “Both teams will have access to a team meeting facility, an offensive and defensive meeting facility, a state-of-the-art training room, team locker rooms and a weight training facility in the Huffman Center as well as three full practice fields. Last year, both teams said they were excited to have one location offer so much in meeting their practice needs, and we hope that this year’s competitors will feel the same way.”

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has sponsored football since 1956, when its first championship in the sport was held in Little Rock, Ark. Currently, 90 NAIA institutions sponsor the sport of football. Only 16 teams will qualify for postseason play. The two teams vying for the national championship title must advance through first round, quarterfinal and semifinal competition leading up to the championship game in mid-December.

The 2009 game marks the continued partnership between the NAIA Host Committee and the game’s title sponsor, Russell Athletic. For more than 100 years, Russell Athletic has supplied America’s athletes and teams with the latest innovations to help them perform at their best and is a leading supplier of team uniforms at the high school, college and professional level.

“Russell Athletic is a perfect fit for the NAIA Football Championship, and we are excited to welcome them back for the 2009 game,” said Bill Peterson, Host Committee co-chairman and Shorter College athletic director. “Russell Athletic’s investment in last year’s game was a vital boost to elevating the status of this championship event, and we greatly appreciate their partnering with us.”
