Darlington safe from chemical spill, game still on

Police and other emergency officials were called to the scene of a reported chemical spill at Bekaert, located off of Darlington Drive. A half-mile circumference around Bekaert was evacuated, and a decontamination unit was dispatched. Darlington School, which is located beyond the half-mile circumference, imposed a lockdown as a precautionary measure. Administrators remained in contact with 911, which advised that we keep people inside the buildings. Ventilation systems were also shut down. The school received word just after 2 p.m. that this location is all clear. The basketball game tonight against Athens Academy is still on as scheduled.
