Darlington Offers Summer Program Variety

Darlington will offer a number of summer camps this summer.
Camp Delightascope, for children ages 2 to 8, will provide learning opportunities in a fun environment. The camp, directed by Lower School Lead Teacher Diane Lumpkin, is divided into three week-long sessions, each with its own theme. This summer’s themes include: Explore the Past (July 3-7), Expand the Present (July 10-14), and Expose the Future (July 17-21). New in the year 2000 is a self-contained class in which campers will experience academic challenges in the areas of math, science, and language arts interwoven with computer technology. This class is for campers aged 7–8.
The camp is staffed by experienced Lower School teachers, teachers’ aides, and Upper School students, who serve as counselors. Each two week session costs $90, or $100 after May 12. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.

Camp Darlington, directed by Lower School physical education instructor Doug Moon, offers boys and girls, ages 8 – 13, the thrills of swimming, shooting, hitting, throwing, kicking, paddling, tagging, ducking, dodging, and running — all along the trails, in the lake, on the playing fields, and in the gym of the Upper School campus.
This year’s three two-week sessions are June 19-30, July 3-14, and July 17-28. The camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, costs $235 per session ($240 after May 31), and includes a T-shirt, snacks, a field trip, and an overnight lock-in. An optional adventure segment for older campers carries an additional $40 charge.

Basketball Camp, coached by Darlington varsity and junior varsity coaches assisted by high school and college players, stresses fundamental skills, with emphasis on shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defending, and setting and using screens.
The camp, for rising fifth- to ninth-grade boys and girls, runs Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with girls attending from May 29 to June 2, and boys from June 5-9. The cost, which includes lunch, snacks, and a T-shirt, is $115 for those registered by May 15, or $125 if registered after May 15. Quarterbacks and Receivers Camp, for rising fifth- to ninth-graders, reinforces the fundamentals of two of football’s most physically and mentally challenging positions. Directed by Middle School teacher and Upper School football coach Tommy Atha, the camp will run from June 12-16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp, which includes a T-shirt, costs $80 for those registered by May 15, or $90 for those registered after May 15.
