Darlington Middle School student to compete in State Spelling Bee

Allen Casey, a seventh grader, has qualified to compete in the State Spelling Bee competition, March 1, at Stratford Academy. Casey and Adam Al-Sayed, an eighth grader, were selected to compete in the District Spelling Bee at St. Jude’s of the Apostle School, Sandy Springs, Ga., Feb. 15.
All Middle School students took a written spelling test in their English classes in Round I of the school’s spelling bee. The top 41 spellers went on to a second written test for Round II. The following 11 spellers competed in Round III on Jan. 29: sixth-grader Claire Davis; seventh-graders Allen Casey, Alicia Wright, Michelle Marie Picon, and Brittany Sloan; and eighth-graders Nick Lewis, Andrew Dodd, Adam Al-Sayed, Caroline Clark, James Withers, and Will Tucker. From Round III, Casey and Al-Sayed were selected to compete in the District Spelling Bee and Clark and Lewis were selected as runners-up.
The winner of the State Spelling Bee will proceed to Washington, D.C., to represent Georgia Independent Schools in the National Spelling Bee.
