Darlington hosted the FCAA Championship Wrestling Tournament and Round Robin on Jan. 15, bringing over 200 wrestlers from eight schools to campus.

Wrestlers from Armuchee, Rockmart, Model, Darlington, Chattooga, Cedartown, Pepperell and Coosa competed in 19 different weight classes. Darlington came in fourth as a team, marking their best finish in the last 12 years.

"Seven of the eight wrestlers we entered placed in the competition," said coach Randy Smith. "We had four champions, one in second, one in third and one in fourth."

Champions included Jule Peek for the 103-lb. weight class, Jordan Beck for the 119-lb. weight class, Thomas Gilbert for the 152-lb. weight class and Andrew Williams for the 170-lb. weight class. In addition, Wyatt Miller finished second for 220 lbs., Zaal Zafari finished third for 132 lbs. and Rostam Zafari finished fourth for 125 lbs.

"Our wrestling parents and fellow coaches Kelly McDurmon and Keith Trotter were instrumental in putting on a fantastic tournament," Smith said. "We also appreciate the students who volunteered their time to make it a successful event. Everyone deserves a pat on the back!"
