Darlington falls for the arts

Since its inception in 1991, Darlington’s annual fine arts event has evolved from a one-day festival to a month-long Fall for the Arts celebration involving the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. The following events have been scheduled for this year’s celebration in October:
All month: Resident artists in instrumental classes
Oct. 2-6: Guest artist Janda Canalis of Earthworks Pottery visits all Upper School Studio Art classes
Oct. 3: Guest artist Doc Stovall visits Lower School. Stovall provides musical entertainment as well as discussions of the origins of traditional cowboy music as it relates to the Western entertainment and poetry we enjoy today.
Oct. 4: Fall for the Arts Convocation featuring Somethin’ Else (men’s a cappella group from Shorter College), 11 a.m.
Author Mordicai Gerstein visits Lower School (all day)
Organ presentation to fourth grade by Joan Hill, First Baptist Church
Oct. 5: Guest artist Wanda Hodges gives presentation on the organ music of J.S. Bach, 1st and 5th periods, Morris Chapel
Oct. 12: Middle School Tie Dye Day, 5th and 6th period
“Actor’s Nightmare,” 8 p.m., Zelle Drama Room
Oct. 13: “Actor’s Nightmare,” 3:30 p.m., Zelle Drama Room
Oct. 15: Fall for the Arts under the Tent
4 p.m. “Happy Birthday Mozart,” Upper and Middle School Fall Choral Concert,
Morris Chapel
5-7 p.m. Visual art displays, workshops, picnic dinner on chapel lawn, with
performance by the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble
8 p.m. “Actor’s Nightmare,” Zelle Drama Room
Oct. 16: Guest artists William and Kate Breytspraak (pianist and vocalist) visit all Upper School choral classes.
7:30 p.m. “Actin’ Out,” student-organized variety show, Zelle Drama Room
Oct. 17: Tri-M Music Honor Society meeting, 11 a.m., Choral Room
Guest artist Lisa Bohn, drama professor from Shorter College, conducts
playwriting workshop, during ASA, Zelle Drama Room
7:30 p.m. Instrumental Concert for Lower, Middle and Upper School Bands, Morris
Chapel
Oct. 23: Guest photography artist Carrie Baker from Berry College on Upper School campus
Oct. 23-28: Auditions for “Les Miserables” in Choral Room
Monday and Tuesday 4-6 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday 4-6 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. (tentative)
Thursday 7 p.m., make-up auditions
Saturday 10 a.m., call backs
Oct. 24: High Museum Trip for Upper School Studio Art classes
Oct. 26: Guest vocal artists from Shorter College on Upper School campus. Location TBA.
Oct. 27: Guest artist Jason Murphy visits Lower School to entertain students with magic and illusions
