Darlington designated a 'heart-safe' school

Darlington School has been recognized by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as a Project S.A.V.E. Heart-Safe School.
"Project S.A.V.E. is an initiative at Children's that is working to assist and recognize schools that have implemented comprehensive programs to prevent sudden cardiac death in the schools," said Alison Ellison, R.N., coordinator of Project S.A.V.E. "We have had at least 21 probable sudden cardiac deaths in Georgia schools since the fall of 2004 ... this has highlighted the importance of a comprehensive program of awareness on the part of all adults who work in the school, as well as more specific training and practice drills for designated first responders."
As part of the program, Project S.A.V.E. will provide periodic update information about changes in the law, CPR, product recalls and ongoing research, and will pay for replacement pads whenever an automated external defibrillator (AED) is used in an emergency situation.
