Darlington School trustee Jimmie Dudley of Rome announced in July the successful conclusion of Darlington’s 1998-99 Annual Fund. Dudley, the campaign’s national chairman, reported that 2,741 alumni, parents, grandparents and friends of the school made contributions totaling $1,241,949, a $116,147 increase over the 1997-98 drive.
“I continue to be amazed at the quality and commitment of Darlington volunteers,” said Dudley, parent of Darlington alumni Jim Dudley ’96 and Holly Dudley Shadday ’89. “We owe a great deal to all the people that put countless hours into raising not only money but also enthusiasm for Darlington. I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful group.”
One-hundred-and-forty volunteers gave numerous hours to the Annual Fund. Annual Fund leadership volunteers included: John Thatcher ’44, Miami, Fla.; John Mears ’67 and Glory Angell, Birmingham, Ala.; Jack Harris ’71, Frank Stuckey ’74, Tom Selman, Ed and Linda Hine, Tlitha Formby, and Mark Alber, Rome; David Harvey ’88, Van Willis ’88, and Bud Smith ’62, Atlanta; and Len Cisney, Greenville, Ky.
All Annual Fund proceeds are directed into Darlington’s operating budget, making it possible to continue to advance salary increases, student financial aid, and campus improvements such as computer and web site expansion. Each year, gifts to the Annual Fund provide approximately $1,200 in non-tuition revenue for every Darlington student.
