Darlington announces new director for Tennis Academy

Darlington School announces that Mysti Morris has been named the director of Horseleg Plantation Tennis Academy, the program formerly directed by Craig Jones.
Morris spent four years playing tennis on a full athletic scholarship to the Georgia Institute of Technology, three years as team captain. She has since spent her time working as a tennis professional, directing children’s tennis programs, organizing adult and youth leagues and assisting with a junior academy residential tennis program.
Darlington’s boarding students may enroll in the Tennis Academy through a partnership between the School and Horseleg Plantation Country Club. This program is open to tennis players of all levels.
“Darlington’s partnership with the Horseleg Plantation Tennis Academy allows students access to both top-level tennis training and an elite academic institution,” said Casey Zimmer, director of admission at Darlington. “The Tennis Academy fits perfectly with the School’s mission of developing and forming young people far beyond the realm of the classroom.”
Practice sessions take place at Horseleg Plantation Country Club in Rome Tuesday through Friday after school, at varying times depending on the student’s age and ability. Morris and her staff of professionals will help determine which tournaments are most appropriate for the student and how frequently he or she competes.
“As a coach and mentor to young children, it is my challenge to provide the right balance of activities that creates an exciting and stimulating environment. It is my job to attract, guide and motivate each child to develop his or her full potential mentally, physically and emotionally,” said Morris. “Tennis is a sport that rewards the effort and time spent. There is no substitute for hard work, but I will always keep in mind that people learn best whe nthey are having fun.”
Tennis Academy participants enjoy amenities of Horseleg Plantation Country Club, including: a one-year membership at the club for each year enrolled in the program; use of the club, including its restaurant, fitness and tennis facilities (five outdoor and three indoor courts); ball machine use; drills four days per week; weekly 30-minute private lessons with the club’s pro or assistant and personalized programs matched to each student’s ability level.
Participation in Horseleg Plantation Tennis Academy does not affect a student’s athletic eligibility with the Georgia High School Association. For more information, please call 1-800-368-4437.
