Cross Country Tigers Blaze Victory Trail

From their first steps of the season at the Berry Darlington Invitational in the fall, the boys and girls cross country teams proved they were on paths to success – with the girls earning a first-place state title for the fifth consecutive year and the boys producing an impressive second-place state title.
“Many of these senior girls have been running together since sixth grade: Lindsey Harbin, Diana Beauford, Rebecca Rhodes, and Jordan Bray. Many of the boys have been running together since ninth grade,” Head Coach Rob Davis explained. “It’s the dedication of the athletes to training and to their team that is a major reason for their success in addition to God’s grace. I could tell them all day long what to do but if they don’t do it, it doesn’t mean anything.”
According to the athletes, their success is a result of excellent coaching by Davis. “Our great results this year are a result of team unity and our superior coaching,” said Eli Montgomery, senior.
Led by senior Stephen Smith the boys’ team finished the regular season 76-32, post season 91-33, and earned both state and region runner-up titles.
Bray also attributed their success to Davis, “He’s one of the main reasons we are where we are.” The girls’ victorious season results include a 78-12 regular season record, 91-12 post season, and an impressive undefeated record in 6AA competition.
Assistant coaches include Tom Sorci, learning center director, Ken Wempe, Middle School faculty, and Marit Mniszewski, Upper School English.
