Cross Country: Girls Win Chattanooga League Meet

The Darlington cross country teams traveled to Ringgold, Ga., on Thursday to participate in a Chattanooga League Meet for the first time. The trip was a success, as the girls’ team won the team title over 20 other teams. The girls’ were led by freshman Lauren Hooper, who placed 4th overall out of 167 runners. Seniors Lindsay Evans (8th) and Ansley McDurmon (9th) also placed in the top 10. The girls’ scoring was rounded out by Bethany Cagle in 15th and Anna Cantrell in 24th.
The boys were led by Jesse Baker’s 2nd place finish. The boys’ team finished 6th of 31 teams, which was the largest meet they have participated in this season. The rest of the boys top-5 was Cam Collins (22nd), Avery Cypress (28th), Andrew Hudson (39th) and Spencer Fields (50th). Avery Cypress and Lauren Hooper were named Darlington’s “runners of the meet” for their outstanding performances.
The varsity cross country teams continue their season on Oct. 8 in Whitesburg, Ga., when they will compete in the Asics Invitational.
