Cox recognized by Veterans of Foreign Wars

Janice Cox, a pre-first teacher at Darlington's Lower School, recently received the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.
"The purpose of this award is to identify and recognize America’s best educators who instill a sense of national pride in their students," said Dr. Steve Bartholomew, division director. "We are both honored and proud that the local VFW selected Mrs. Cox to receive this important award."
Michael Rice, a representative from the VFW Post 4911 in Rome, visited the Lower School on May 15 to present Cox with a certificate and a check for $100. She was the only elementary teacher in Floyd County to receive this award.
Founded in 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars is concerned with the education of America’s youth. The organization annually recognizes the nation’s top elementary teachers who effectively promote America’s history, traditions and institutions.
