The Cox Cubs began an exciting adventure today as we Skyped across the world to India! One of our Cox Cub kindergarteners, Sinay Patel, is in India visiting extended family during the month of January.

We set up our computer this morning using Skype. As we were eating our snack, we heard the phone ring. We answered by clicking the telephone on our SmartBoard. And there was Sinay…right on the big screen in our classroom! The SmartBoard has become our window into India!

The students asked Sinay questions like "What time is it in India?" "What city are you in so we can mark it on our map?" and "How is the weather there?"

Sinay was beaming as his mom helped him answer the questions from his classmates. It was 8:15 at night in India. They are in the town of Borsad, about 8,000 miles from Rome, Ga.! The weather was very cold. Sinay is wearing American clothes but the Indian ladies are wearing saris. The wildest thing is the roads!

“There are sometimes buffalo, camels or other animals in the roadways. People drive crazy … they have horns like us, but they honk them too much!” Sinay told us.

The Cox Cubs learned a lot today but the best lesson of all was that friends are never too far away to share love, learning and excitement.  We can hardly wait until we “Skype” again!
