Lower School second-grade teacher Elaine Smith and fourth-grade math and science teacher Lola Bradshaw expanded their knowledge June 21-25 when they attended “Geology in the Classroom,” a course at the Weinman Mineral Museum in Cartersville, Ga. The course, taught by museum director Jose Santamaria, combined instructor and guest lectures, field trips, and hands-on activities to give students insight into the history of Georgia rocks, minerals, and fossils. During the study, students visited a cave and quarry where they dug for fossils which they later classified. Smith and Bradshaw will take their newly discovered fossils and newly obtained knowledge back to their classrooms.
